Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico is a network of interactive and experimental science museums in the Italian region Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the cities of Trieste, Pordenone and Adegliacco (Tavagnacco-UD).

Each museum has its own distinctive features, but they all share the same philosophy and methodology: touching, experimenting, learning while having fun, in order to truly understand science and nature. As “new generation museums” the centers use original exhibition techniques and innovative educational methodologies, thus becoming lively places, where visitors can really interact with objects and exhibits. Immaginario Scientifico’s mission is to bring science at everyone’s reach, aiming to create a society in which citizens can knowingly take part.

In each of its three centers Immaginario Scientifico offers various activities for all school-levels, such as personalized visits, demonstrations on Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Math and Coding, experimental labs and tinkering activities.
On request, some activities are available in English and Slovenian. For information: +39040224424 (Trieste and Tavagnacco) or +390434542455 (Pordenone).

The museums also organize edutainment activities for single visitors of every age, such making and tinkering labs, family lab, scientific birthday parties and nights at the museum.

Finally, Immaginario Scientifico organizes museum tours and workshops targeting people with disabilities.

All the activities aim to help young generations to develop an open and positive attitude towards museums and science.

Trieste – Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico

Located in the beautiful Grignano bay, not far from Miramare’s Park, the Trieste Science Centre is the first museum of the network. It’s been open since 1999, but it is active since 1986, when its founder Paolo Budinich organized in Paris the exhibition “Imaginaire Scientifique”. From there, the exhibition travelled in Italy and then became a centre for the dissemination of science, especially aimed for schools and teachers.

Today Immaginario Scientifico is a science centre, where visitors can interact with hands-on exhibits in the Fenomena section, manipulating and playing with them, to learn about natural phenomena while having fun. They can also dive in multi-display projections on giant screens in the Kaleido area, where theme-based multivisions and stimulating musics create an original mix of scientific contents and emotional involvement. In the planetarium Cosmo, they can take conducted tours to the heavens, to find out about the wonders of star motion: sunrise and sunset simulations, constellations and star movements during the night and over the seasons, the planets position in the sky.

In addition, in the laboratories Demo.lab and X.lab children and adults can take part in demonstrations and experimental activities.

The museums also organize edutainment activities for single visitors of every age, such making and tinkering labs, family lab, scientific birthday parties and nights at the museum.

Pordenone – Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico

The Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico in Pordenone is a science museum to try, to play and to find out. It is located in a former cotton mill (inside the old dye works), and its exhibition techniques are typical of interactive and experimental museums, where informal education methodologies are strongly used.

The museum is a socializing environment, displaying, in the Fenomena area, hands-on exhibits divided into specific thematic subsections. Visitors can manipulate and play with them, to learn about natural phenomena while having fun, and find out about the laws of physics governing them. In the Kaleido area theme-based multivisions on large screens and stimulating musics create an original mix of scientific contents and emotional involvement. A planetarium, Cosmo, allows visitors to find out about the wonders of star motion: sunrise and sunset simulations, constellations and star movements during the night and over the seasons, the planets position in the sky.
In the colorful and friendly laboratories Demo.lab and X.lab children and adults can take part in demonstrations and experimental activities.

The museums also organize edutainment activities for single visitors of every age, such making and tinkering labs, family lab, scientific birthday parties and nights at the museum.

Adegliacco Old Watermill – Immaginario Didattico

Adegliacco’s Old Watermill is located along Udine’s canal and on the cycle path from Udine to Reana del Rojale, and it hosts the visitor centre called Dida Centre Immaginario Didattico.

This fascinating 14th century structure reflects the different identities, between innovation and tradition, of this area. The mill has been functioning up to the 1990’s, and it still preserves its grindstones and the original machinery used to transform grain into flour.

In the green area in front of the building, the “Park to think” hosts an outdoor museum on optical reflection, geometry and mathematics, with a set of mirrors and big exhibits, which are nice to look at and pleasant to touch, to study and to discover.

The Watermill is open for guided tours (upon reservation). It organizes also original birthday parties and adventurous nights at the museum.
