FameLab Trieste 2025
Friday 4 April 2025
Can science be explained in 3 minutes? That’s the challenge of FameLab, the international science communication competition for young researchers and university students.
This science talent show features local selection rounds held in 8 cities across Italy, including Trieste, where the event is scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2025. It is organized by Immaginario Scientifico, the University of Trieste, the University of Udine, SISSA – International School for Advanced Studies, and the Municipality of Trieste, as part of the Trieste City of Knowledge Protocol.
At the Sala Luttazzi in Magazzino 26, starting at 9:00 a.m., participants will have just three minutes to captivate judges and the audience by presenting a scientific topic they are passionate about, showcasing clarity, accuracy, and charisma.
FameLab will accept competitors from the fields of Science, Medicine, Engineering, as well as Humanities, who adopt scientific methods, theories and data in their research, and who will talk about them in their presentations.
To participate, applicants must register online by Thursday, March 27, 2025.
The top two winners of the local selection will receive a cash prize, gain access to a science communication Masterclass in Perugia in June, and qualify for the National Final scheduled for the end of September 2025.
The winner of FameLab Italia 2025 will then move on to the FameLab International Final in November, competing against participants from all over the world.
WORKSHOP TO PREPARE FOR FAMELAB
To help aspiring contestants prepare their presentations, the organizers of the Trieste selection are hosting a free workshop on March 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Polo Giovani Toti (Via del Castello 1, Trieste). The session will focus on content preparation and theatrical techniques.
All researchers who meet the eligibility requirements to register for FameLab (even if they have not registered yet) are welcome to participate to the training sessions.
Donato Ramani, a science communicator from SISSA, will discuss how to structure presentations with an effective narrative framework. Meanwhile, actress Daniela Gattorno will emphasize key aspects of stage presence and voice use.
The workshop will be held in Italian.
